Mother’s Day Gift Guide for Christians

May 2, 2021

While I am not a mother myself, I was raised by a Christian mother and a Christian father. In fact, I started this website Muddling Through Together in honor of my mother, two years after her death. Mother’s Day is complicated for me, but I do love celebrating my many wonderful friends who have become mothers in recent years.

If you are shopping for a Christian woman this Mother’s Day, then these gift ideas will help you.

While I have divided this Mother’s Day gift guide into two categories, based on stages of life, any of these gift ideas might be appropriate for your own mom or for the mother of your children. This is especially true for specific book recommendations.

Any book with an * indicates I own the book, but I haven’t finished reading it. Any book with an ** indicates I own the book AND I have read the entire book.

Religious Gifts for Your Mom on Mother’s Day

Are you an adult wanting to celebrate your mom for Mother’s Day? Encourage her Christian journey with these Mother’s Day gift ideas!

Bible

Is it possible to own too many Bibles? While your mom hopefully already has a Bible, she will still appreciate a new one.

You might consider a large-print Bible if your mom has trouble reading. If your mom is also a grandma, check out this special Bible just for grandmothers.

Devotionals, Bible Studies, and Prayer Books

You’re never too old to learn more about your faith. Your mother will appreciate a new devotional! I know my mom love reading new books from Joyce Meyer and Beth Moore.

Amazon offers some beautiful devotionals and prayer books for grandmothers.

If your mother is struggling with her faith, or if she needs encouragement, consider one of these books. Look through their descriptions and reviews to determine which one would most help your mom right now.

  • Searching for Sunday: Loving, Leaving, and Finding the Church by Rachel Held Evans**
  • Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again by Rachel Held Evans*
  • A Rhythm of Prayer: A Collection of Meditations for Renewal by Sarah Bessey
  • How Big Is Your Umbrella: Weathering the Storms of Life by Sheila Wray Gregoire
  • It’s Okay Not to Be Okay: Moving Forward One Day at a Time by Sheila Walsh**

Magnifying Glass for Reading

I remember showing my wedding photos to my grandmother, just weeks before she died. She held up a magnifying glass over each person in my photos. Even then, it was hard for her to distinguish everyone.

Part of aging includes loss of eyesight. Even minimal loss poses a challenge when reading the Bible, which often includes tiny print. This Mother’s Day, why not gift your mom with a nice magnifying glass so she can better read her Bible and her devotionals? Amazon sells tons of options, including this one designed specifically for the Bible.

Quality Time

When did your mom last enjoy quality time with you? Instead of offering a material gift for Mother’s Day, share the gift of time.

Go to church together. If your entire family already attends church together every Sunday, take your mom out for lunch after church. (You might want to do this on a day other than Mother’s Day, which can be quite crowded).

You can still spend quality time with your mom even if you live far apart. Buy two copies of a book, read it together, and discuss it. Make time for a weekly phone call and pray together.

Religious Gifts for Your Wife on Mother’s Day

Are you a spouse wanting to celebrate the mother of your children on Mother’s Day? Encourage her Christian journey with these Mother’s Day gift ideas!

Christian Subscription Box

Subscription boxes are a wonderful gift idea, especially if you want your wife to feel special every month. Crate Joy has multiple subscription boxes for Christian women. Here are just a few options!

The Believer’s Box

Each Believer’s Box features 5-7 items like a frameable print, inspiring Christian jewelry, pass-along scripture cards, beauty, wellness, and other lifestyle items. These are all centered around a theme, like Joy or Masterpiece. The theme for May 2021 is Beautiful.

There’s also a budget-friendly option, the Believer’s Bag, for only $10/month. This contains a scripture print, cards, and a lifestyle item, based on the same theme.

This company also gives back! They curate items from women-owned businesses, plus they donate meals to the Christian organization Food for the Poor

The Believer’s Box has an average rating of 4 1/2 stars, with 140 reviews. Use code MOTHERSDAY5 at checkout to get $5 off your first box on any prepaid 3, 6, or 12 month box plan.

Faithbox

Each Faithbox is also centered around a theme. Each monthly box includes:

  • Everyday Faith: a daily devotional from Faithbox to help keep you centered with Christ!
  • Impact Guide: Gives a detailed description of each product included, where is came from, the impact it has, etc.
  • A variety of hand-picked items such as jewelry, accessories, Christian books, art, decorations, and more!

Faithbox only partners with companies who create ethical, eco-friendly products, so you can feel good about what you receive.

There’s also a budget-friendly option for readers, Faithpak. Starting at $18.29/box, you receive the devotional, a Christian book, and prayer cards.

Faithbox has an average rating of 4 1/2 stars, with 127 reviews. Use code HOPE at checkout to get $5 off your first box!

Butterfly Box

Butterfly Box is another great option for Christian women.

  • Each month’s box is designed to illustrate a biblical theme and to encourage spiritual growth.
  • Each box includes 5 to 6 items such as jewelry, artwork, books, décor, personal pampering items, faith-sharing cards, and other specialty items.
  • Products are faith-based or support small Christian businesses.

Butterfly Box has an average rating of 4 1/2 stars, with 72 reviews.

The Delilah Box

The Delilah Box is unlike the other Christian subscription boxes on this list! It is a monthly Christian Book club created to highlight and uncover the lesser-known, lesser-liked, and more “questionable women” of the Bible. Each month, the Delilah Box chooses a “bad girl” of the Bible for the theme. Each box includes:

  • at least 2 books
  • study brochure
  • 2-3 additional items like tea, enamel pins, Bible journaling, jewelry, and accessories

Subscribers can also join an exclusive Facebook group to discuss the books!

The Delilah Box has an average rating of almost 5 stars, with 102 reviews. Use code DELILAH at checkout to get a special discount.

Devotionals, Bible Studies, and Prayer Books

Yes, I already listed this idea above, but the mother of your children is in a different stage of life than your own mother. Some of these specific recommendations are intended for young mothers, but you can still consider the books I suggested above.

Amazon sells many book options for Christian mothers. Look through the descriptions and reviews to determine which books would most help your wife right now.

This prayer journal for women has over 30,000 reviews, with an average 5-star rating!

If your wife is constantly on the move between commuting to work and chauffeuring the kids to activities, gift her an Audible subscription! She can choose from a wide library of audiobooks.

If your wife is struggling with her walk with Christ, consider surprising her with one of these books for Mother’s Day.

  • Jesus Feminist by Sarah Bessey**
  • A Year of Biblical Womanhood by Rachel Held Evans**
  • Standing in the Shoes My Mother Made: A Womanist Theology by Diana Hayes
  • Not Alone: Reflections on Faith and Depression by Monica A. Coleman

You can also buy my mother’s prayer book, which is helpful for wives and mothers.

Christian Apparel

This Mother’s Day, spruce up your wife’s wardrobe! It can be hard for a stay-at-home mom of young children to feel good about her appearance. Help her rediscover her confidence again with cute Christian apparel.

First I recommend Christian t-shirts from the Etsy shop Clothed in Strength Boutique. Cassie (the owner) actually sent me a couple of pink t-shirts to review. I’m a big fan!

Faith Can Move Mountains is one of the shirts I received to review. It’s so soft and comfy. The loose fit is particularly welcome as I’ve put on a few quarantine pounds.

While you can find beautiful Christian jewelry all over the Internet, I particularly like this personalized silver cross necklace on Etsy. You can add letter charms and birthstone charms for your children!

Quality Time Without Kids

Your wife could use at least two different kinds of breaks: time for just herself, and quality time with you.

Obviously, a lot of factors go into how much quality time you can arrange for your wife as a Mother’s Day gift. How old are your children? Do you have extra money for a baby-sitter or family who can help? What work schedules do you and your wife follow?

It might take some creative planning, but you can still surprise your wife with quality time.

Help your wife get some time for herself by booking a spa day, or by signing her up for a fun local class to learn a new skill. During that time, take full responsibility for your kids.

Date night is important too, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. A Prioritized Marriage shares tons of great ideas for at-home date nights to enjoy after kids go to sleep. Choose one of these ideas, do all of the prep work yourself, and plan out a romantic evening with your wife!

Final Thoughts on Christian Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

I hope this Mother’s Day gift guide for Christians has been helpful! While I’ve linked to some specific Christian gifts online, you can also use these general ideas to shop locally. Support small businesses whenever you can!
